1.電腦碩士被公司解僱後,自行編寫程式入侵前公司系統;
2.上午在家執行程式「攻擊」數小時,導致前公司不能接收任何電郵;
3.下午則在大學活動室或公共圖書館執行程式「攻擊」,令前公司不能使用過濾方法還擊;
4.但百密一疏,電腦碩士最終被警方拘捕及檢控。

Stupid!Stupid!Stupid!

Let’s review CRACKING 101, Rule No. 1 : Don’t try this at home.

You can attack without invasion.

Today is the 15 annversary since Linus Torvalds first Linux post on usenet.

Hello everybody out there using minix -

I’m doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won’t be big and professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones. This has been brewing since april, and is starting to get ready. I’d like any feedback on things people like/dislike in minix, as my OS resembles it somewhat (same physical layout of the file-system (due to practical reasons) among other things).

I’ve currently ported bash(1.08) and gcc(1.40), and things seem to work. This implies that I’ll get something practical within a few months, and I’d like to know what features most people would want. Any suggestions are welcome, but I won’t promise I’ll implement them :-)

Linus (torvalds@kruuna.helsinki.fi)PS. Yes - it’s free of any minix code, and it has a multi-threaded fs. It is NOT protable (uses 386 task switching etc), and it probably never will support anything other than AT-harddisks, as that’s all I have :-( .

Protect Your Privacy from Google

Posted in Google at August 14th, 2006 / No Comments »

We always said that Google is your friend when you search information on the Internet. However when it comes to privacy, Google is not always your friend. It is because Google stores a cookie on your PC expiring in 2038. If you are a paranoid person like me. Then you should considered using the following method to protect your privacy.

Using anonymous proxy is one of the solution to solved the above problem and surf the web anonymously, but this solutions has it’s own drawback, it will slow down your connection to the outside world(internet). Then I come across this small how-to page in the internet. If you are using a decent and resonable morden web browser (read mozilla firefox), then you can redirect all your google search request to anonymous proxy, while still surfing the web at full speed.

The following steps demostrate on a ubuntu 6.06 Dapper LTS computer:

  1. Install tor
    • Do not use the packages in ubuntu’s universe. They are not maintained and most likely old and therefore miss out on stability and possibly security fixes. Add the following two line in /etc/apt/source.list

      deb http://mirror.noreply.org/pub/tor dapper main
      deb-src http://mirror.noreply.org/pub/tor dapper main

    • Verifying signatures with apt 0.6.x

      # gpg –keyserver subkeys.pgp.net –recv 94C09C7F
      # gpg –fingerprint 94C09C7F
      # gpg –export 94C09C7F | sudo apt-key add -

    • Inatall tor

      # apt-get update
      # apt-get install tor

  2. Install foxyproxy extension for your firefox, restart firefox.
  3. Configure FoxyProxy
  4. Delete cookie from Firefox
  5. Set Firefox so that it only keeps cookies till you close Firefox (Edit/Preferences/Privacy/Cookies)
  6. Surf the Internet

I just read Paul Thurrott’s article IE 7.0 Technical Changes Leave Web Developers, Users in the Lurch. Although it was written last August.
Summary:

  • In a recent blog entry, Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) Lead Program Manager Chris Wilson revealed many of the technical improvements that Microsoft will add to IE 7.0 for its final release. Almost all the improvements are related to bugs in IE’s implementation of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Many of these bugs are not fixed in the currently available IE 7.0 Beta 1.
  • Microsoft doesn’t plan to fully support the latest CSS standard in IE 7.0.
  • The most critical point in Wilson’s post, in my mind, is Microsoft’s admission that it will fail the crucial Acid2 browser-compliance test , which the Web Standards Project (WaSP) designed to help browser vendors ensure that their products properly support Web standards. Microsoft apparently disagrees. “Acid2 … is pointedly not a compliance check,” Wilson noted, contradicting the description on the Acid2 Web site. “As a wish list, [Acid2] is really important and useful to my team, but it isn’t even intended, in my understanding, as our priority list for IE 7.0.” Meanwhile, other browser teams have made significant efforts to comply with Acid2.
  • Microsoft blames backward-compatibility problems for the stalemate over true Web standards compatibility. Put succinctly, the company has gone its own way for so long and now has to support so many developers who use nonstandard Web technologies that it will be impossible to make IE Web-standards-compliant without breaking half the commercial Web sites on the planet. Furthermore, by halting all IE development for several years before reconstituting the IE team to create IE 7.0, Microsoft has set back Web development by an immeasurable amount of time.
  • My advice is simple: Boycott IE. It’s a cancer on the Web that must be stopped. IE isn’t secure and isn’t standards-compliant, which makes it unworkable both for end users and Web content creators.

Pretty strong words from Microsoft-advocate Paul Thurrott.

Get Firefox!

Web developer still need to take care IE user, we still need to write more IE only code, web user please use other more standard compilance browser like Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari and Opera to make web developers’ life much more easier.

The homepage of The Hong Kong Centre for Health Protection was defaced at 2006/07/25 10:50 by cracker Chironex Fleckeri. The targeted system is running Windows 2000 with IIS 5.0. More information can be found at Zone-H.org, which also have an archive of the defaced page.

I’ve use many firefox plugins and the followings are my best favorite plugins for web developer.

Web Developer Extension (http://chrispederick.com/work/firefox/webdeveloper/)
The Web Developer extension for Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla adds a menu and a toolbar to the browser with various web developer tools.

LiveHTTPHeaders (http://livehttpheaders.mozdev.org/)

MeasureIt (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=539)
Draw out a ruler to get the pixel width and height of any elements on a webpage.

ColorZilla (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=271)
Advanced Eyedropper, ColorPicker, Page Zoomer and other colorful goodies.

I’ve just finished upgrade from Ubuntu 5.10 to 6.06 on my notebook. Actually, I didn’t use the upgrade function but backup data and do a fresh install. It’s because I’ve manually install Firefox 1.5 on Ubuntu 5.10 and also my Chinese system had some problem.

Ubuntu 6.06 looks more polished than the previous version 5.10. All the hardware is recognized during the installation and are ready to use after the system reboot. Wireless networks is working and the display correctly identified and configure, the graphic controller is intel i915GM, some other distributions need to manual install and configure 915resolution, there are so many other distributions out there need to learn from Ubuntu.

I start using ubuntu since last August, because fedora core didn’t installed on my notebook, but Ubuntu works out of the box. Great Distribution that everyone should give it a try.
